LAN vs online: why CS2 results differ

Same players, same maps, different conditions. Averaging online and LAN maps into one rate hides the thing you were trying to measure.

An online qualifier and a stage match in an arena are both Counter-Strike, and they are not the same environment. Latency, travel, crowd noise, stage pressure, and the opponents a team meets at an event all shift the distribution. Blending both into one hit rate produces a number that describes neither.

Why the split matters for a hit rate

Suppose a team wins 70% of its online maps and 50% of its LAN maps, and you have equal stored maps of each. The blended rate is 60%. That 60% describes a team that does not exist: it is neither the online side nor the LAN side.

How to use the filter

  • If the match you are looking at is an online qualifier, filter to Online before you trust the rate.
  • If it is a stage match at an event, filter to LAN.
  • If one side of the filter is thin, say so out loud instead of leaning on the blended number.

The same principle applies to map and opponent filters inside Research. The more specific the window, the smaller the sample, and the more carefully the number should be read.

Questions

Is LAN really different enough to separate?
For team map win rates it often is, and for player props the effect is smaller but still present. The safer habit is to separate when the sample allows it and to admit when it does not.
Does ClutchIQ store event names?
No. Venue is stored as LAN or Online, not as a tournament name. That keeps the filter honest without claiming an event database ClutchIQ does not have.
Why did my hit rate disappear when I filtered?
Because the filtered sample dropped below five maps, which ClutchIQ treats as too small to display. Widen the window or clear the filter to see a rate again.
